PUBLIC PROFILE

Local Resident

Murraylands · SA

Capt. Bouc, teacher, River Master

I am a retired school principal and teacher/trainer/consultant on school camping and youth adventure education. I am very concerned about the current dropout rate of high school students, currently 24%.
As a contribution to helping dropout teens to stay in education during their transition years 15-18, I am working on creating a fleet of Houseboat style School ships working as "Cocoons' to reset the thinking of these dropout teens at risk.

Avoca trust

Aerie College and the associated DGR Trust Avoca trust plans to establish a fleet of school ships working the Murray to hold Teens aged 15-18 at risk of education dropout. The SA Law dictates that these young people are required to continue their education. Parents are at risk of a fine if their children drop out of school.

Distinguished and Famous people from Perth South

🎬 Sam Worthington

Sam Worthington grew up at Rockingham before drama study at John Curtin school in Fremantle and the National Institute of Dramatic Art. A period as a bricklayer’s apprentice preceded the acting career that eventually brought Avatar and international recognition. In recalling his childhood, he said a major Hollywood film had seemed far beyond anything he expected. The local beginning makes that progression concrete: schooling, work and training came before the giant screens and elaborate digital worlds. His career also included Australian theatre, television and films, rather than beginning with the blockbuster that made him globally familiar.

🥁 Bon Scott

Bon Scott moved with his family to Fremantle in 1956 and attended local schools before entering working life. His early music included side drumming with the Coastal Scottish Pipe Band and later playing in the Spektors and Valentines. A mechanics apprenticeship, store work and postal duties sat beside those performances. The AC/DC years came after this apprenticeship in both employment and music. The familiar hard-rock voice had an unexpectedly disciplined percussion background: Scott was an accomplished young pipe-band drummer before he became a frontman. Fremantle retains his memory through his grave and a waterfront statue.
